Handmade Wooden Bowl made from Spalted Ambrosia Maple wood.
One of my favorite woods to turn. It has a nice cream background which is a host to a variety of streaks that are caused by an infestation of the cute ambrosia beetle. Yes it's a cute beetle!
The beetle burrows into the tree and leaves a fungus in its path, which is what creates the beautiful discoloration in the wood and a very neat pattern. In most or all of the streaks there are tiny holes from where the beetle burrowed in the wood. Neither the fungus or the beetles affect the integrity of the wood. Before the wood is turned, the wood is checked, cleaned and made beetle free. Perfect for jewelry, candies and more!
